When water leaks strike, the damage can quickly spiral into a frustrating mess for homeowners. One of our recent clients experienced this firsthand, and their journey from chaotic patches to a seamless finish is exactly the kind of transformation we take pride in delivering.

The Problem: Multiple Leaks and Patchwork Repairs

The homeowner had multiple plumbing leaks that affected several areas of the house including two guest bedrooms, a small section of the kitchen, the living room ceiling, and the office. A plumber was called in to diagnose the issue, and access panels were cut throughout the home to reach the pipes.

Initially, another contractor attempted to patch the ceiling in the living room. Unfortunately, the same plumbing line began leaking again shortly after, and the ceiling had to be reopened. To make matters worse, the previous patch job was subpar visibly uneven, poorly supported, and certainly not up to the homeowner’s standards. That’s when we got the call.

Our Approach: Careful Prep and Quality Workmanship

We began by inspecting the damage and outlining a clean, efficient plan to restore the space properly. Preparation is key to protecting the home and keeping dust and debris to a minimum. We:

  • Covered all floors with paper and plastic

  • Shielded carpets and nearby walls with plastic sheeting

  • Created temporary dust walls to prevent contamination in other rooms

  • Identified areas where previous patches weren’t flush or secure

One alarming discovery was the previous use of regular shims to support a ceiling patch completely inappropriate for maintaining structure or alignment.

We carefully removed those patches and installed proper wood blocking to ensure solid support and a seamless surface.

The Restoration: Bringing the Home Back to Life

With the structure ready, we got to work applying multiple coats of joint compound , allowing proper drying time between each layer. Once smooth, we reapplied the knockdown texture to match the existing finish in the affected ceiling areas.

After texture, we primed and painted all the repaired surfaces, blending them flawlessly into the original walls and ceilings. When we finished, it was as if nothing had ever happened.

The Result: A Happy Homeowner and a Job Done Right

The homeowner was thrilled with the results and so were we. At Asheville Drywall, we treat every job with the care and craftsmanship it deserves. We don’t just patch drywall we restore comfort, value, and peace of mind to every home we touch.
